In recent years, the convergence of video games and movies has created a treasure trove of immersive experiences. From heart-pounding action to exciting adventures, video games based on movie franchises allow players to step into the shoes of their favorite characters and forge their destinies within various fantastical worlds. Whether you’re seeking the thrill of high-speed chases inspired by an action-packed blockbuster or you’re interested in unraveling the mysteries of a fantasy world from a sci-fi franchise, there’s something for everyone.

This post will review the latest ten video games inspired by renowned movie franchises.

1. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s book trilogy of a similar name. This video game mainly focuses on the activities of Gollum, covering his events from the finding of the One Ring to the early chapters of ‘The Fellowship of the Ring.’ Most importantly, the game shines in its detailed environments, faithfully recreating the atmosphere of Middle-earth. In this game, Gollum’s persona splits into two: Smeagol (good, social, and cautious) and Gollum (bad personality, villainous, and vicious).

Although the core gameplay revolves around stealth and platforming, the constant internal struggle between Sméagol’s and Gollum’s decisions adds a layer of intrigue. Smeagol tends to be more honorable, while the latter is darker. Notably, Gollum can climb walls and attack enemies from above but is poor at engaging in direct combat.

2. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Released in December 2023, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a first-person, action-adventure video game based on Avatar, the epic sci-fi franchise created by David Cameron. Built using Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine and specifically designed for the latest generations of gaming consoles and PCs, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora brings to life the fascinating world of Pandora with all its beauty, adventure, and danger in an immersive open-world gaming experience.

In this game, you play a Na’vi abducted by the human militaristic corporation known as RDA. Embark on a journey across the Western Frontier, a never-before-seen continent of Pandora. Your mission is to reconnect with your lost heritage, rediscover what it truly means to be a Na’vi, and join other clans to protect Pandora from the evil RDA forces.

3. Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War

Like the renowned Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise from Disney, this game has exciting adventures, mysteries, battles, dangers, and untold treasures! 4. Aliens: Dark Descent

Although the Alien universe has always been a hit-and-miss regarding video games, the good ones have been exceptional. That said, Aliens: Dark Descent delivers an unparalleled homage to the Alien franchise by nailing the tone, atmosphere, and sense of fear of what it would feel like to encounter the constant threat of the Xenomorphs. In this game, you must lead a squad of Colonial Marines through the terrifying corridors of a space station to stop the terrifying outbreak of Xenomorphs on Planet Lethe.

Released in June 2023, Aliens: Dark Descent is available on almost every modern gaming console in the market, including PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and even PC. The video game is also expected to be available on Nintendo Switch soon.
